Banko kyusu are made from a clay called "shidei," which has better heat retention than porcelain or metal and naturally absorbs tannins and other bitter components in tea. For this reason, it is said that tea brewed in Banko ware becomes milder in taste. The Yuubi Kyusu uses a ceramic tea strainer
