Attitude Gyro Horizon Indicator, F9F Cougar & HUP Retriever, Sperry 672740This is a 1950's era Attitude Gyro Horizon Indicator as used in the US Navy Marine Corps Fighter Jet Grumman F9F 5 Cougar and the HUP 1, 3 Helicopter, made by Sperry PN 672740 as a "fast erecting" gyro (as it fast as it could be in the early 1950's). It also has the USN stock # of R88 I 1331, linking it to the F9F 5 as seen in the F9F Flight Manual (see photo of page from manual dated 1955). The gyro was also named as a Type H 5, but is not labeled as
